Transitional Landscapes, Copenhagen, DK

Transitions are a focus of the project, aiming to create a landscape of transitions between land and water. The project gathers strength from the opportunities for transitions from the land to the water and the manipulation of the boundaries between the two at canals edge. The drive of the project is the mechanical and experiential transitions from land to water and back again. Three transitions receive focus, people to the water, land into the water, and water into the land. Three responses were derived to blend the condition with the architecture. These are the ramp, the levee, and the pipes. The ramp carries people across the project to the water’s edge, the levee establishes a new dock and a dry dock, and the pipes allow for controlled flooding and draining of the dry dock.

The project began with studies to manipulate the landscape, developing functional spaces and access points to the water through analog and digital models.
